Preparing for a Legal Interview

Being prepared will give you confidence and the belief that you can achieve, allowing you to showcase the best of your skills and capabilities to a hiring manager.

In order to prepare you should ask yourself the following questions:

  • What do I know about this role?

  • What do I know about the firm?

  • What do I know about the interviewer?

  • How does this role contribute to the department or wider business area?

  • Does this role require technical/specialist knowledge or skills?

  • What qualities, capabilities or skills are required to perform the key tasks and responsibilities of the role?

  • What examples do I have that can demonstrate these qualities, capabilities and skills?

Once you’ve considered a few examples that you may be able to share during the interview, you should think about how you’ll present them in your interview. It’s important the interviewers can follow your examples, so explaining them in a clear and logical way is key.

In order to get across why you feel your examples are strong, you’ll need to make sure you explain all the relevant and important information that demonstrate your strengths and capability. Following the STAR approach is a great way to help you achieve this.

Use the following resources to help you prepare:

  • The firm's website

  • LinkedIn

  • The Lawyer or Law Gazette

  • Legal 500

  • Chambers & Partners
