Spirehouse are recruiting a Senior Childcare Solicitor on a locum basis on behalf of a well-regarded local authority in the South West.
The Opportunity
This is a fully remote contract engagement, initially for six months with a strong likelihood of extension. The role sits within the Children's Legal Services team and involves managing a complex caseload of public law childcare matters from pre-proceedings through to final hearings.
You will provide legal advice to Children's Services, social workers, team managers and senior officers, attend Legal Planning Meetings and strategy discussions, and conduct care proceedings including applications for Interim Care Orders, Care Orders, Supervision Orders and Emergency Protection Orders. The role also involves drafting legal documentation, advising on Child Protection and Human Rights matters, and instructing Counsel, experts, CAFCASS and other professionals as required.
The rate is £55–£60 per hour, inside IR35.
Requirements
- Significant post-qualification experience in public law children and childcare matters
- Experience advising local authority Children's Services departments
- Strong working knowledge of the Children Act 1989, Adoption and Children Act 2002 and associated legislation
- Ability to independently manage a complex caseload with minimal supervision
- Advocacy experience desirable but not essential
